A65 Gear selector shaft

The selector shaft duly arrived and the spigot was an excellent fit in the gearbox end plate, however....
When I came to re-fit the inner timing cover I found that the shoulder which passes through the inner timing cover is considerably smaller; see attached photograph. (The new one is on the left). Apparently the engine of my bike, which is a 1965, is from a later model, which is strange as the engine number starts with a 2. Maybe a later timing cover on an old engine? I am told the correct part number is 68-3294.

So that one has been returned and I shall rebuild with the old one.

I hope this is another nugget of useful for A50 and A65 owners on the forum.
