Hi,
I have an early A7 question:

Could anyone please tell me if it was the usual manufacturing practice for BSA to fit a 1948 engine in a 1949 frame, if not, how would this affect its value?

Thank you
Tony

either explore the various web sites to check if it came from the factory with those numbers,
post the numbers here and we can check
or join the owners club and get a check from the register.

its not impossible to have mixed year numbers although both should be YA7 and the 1949 ZA7 , then with the age of the bike it could have been possible to have thrown a rod or damaged a case and have either a factory replacement or a later sourced motor.
finally, the factory may have had motors waiting a chassis order to go in or even engine made in December and bike made in January.
the numbers will help.

as for value, no difference at this age, some would prefer but hard to find and some will try to sell with a premium for matching numbers.

YA7 prefixes from late 1947.

Then ZA7 prefixes from November 1948.

You will not find any factory mixed YA7 and ZA7 engine/frame.

Thank you both, I am a member so I will check the register as suggested.
