Being new to this, I wonder if someone could advise me what grease to buy for my 1965 B40 please. I will need grease to use on, for example, the swinging arm bush, speedo drive, brake cam spindles. Will one type of grease be suitable for all these, and if so which type?  Phil.

Castrol LM grease was recommended by BSA, amongst other makes, for all bearings (wheel, swinging arm, steering head, etc) in that era - basically, a high temperature lithium based grease designed for wheel bearings.

Good stuff that Castrol, had my tub years.

Thanks very much.  Based on what you say, I've now looked online and I think Morris K42EP multi-purpose grease should do it. Any recommendations for a good grease gun? Simple old-fashioned push type perhaps? Maybe ebay secondhand I guess. Or maybe a jumble.

STAR TWIN

A half decent grease gun won't break the bank. Halfords or anywhere really.

I've just bought a grease gun from Ebay: item number 222220112488. £15 including 5 grease cartridges and it's also got a flexible nozzle which is great to reach the rear hub grease nipple for example.

Thanks for this, Mark. I looked it up. How do you know the grease is suitable? Phil.
