Headlamp bulb shroud breaking off

I took my Goldstar out for the day on Sunday and when I got back found that the black shroud that covers the bulb in the centre of the lamp had broken off and was rattling around in the reflector, having fractured off the assembly that carries the clip for the halogen bulb (see pic). Clearly road vibration has to be the prime culprit - the potholes and generally deteriorating road surfaces must have a lot to do with this.

Anyway, I was able to remove the offending item through the bulb aperture before it completely destroyed the reflector (I'm off touring in Europe next week so little time to replace the unit). A new reflector unit of which it's part is £160-odd quid! The bulb holder/shroud unit could be a separate part number of course, at a fraction of the price but isn't!

I contacted Tim at Midlife Classics in Droitwich (good chap, can heartily recommend them for customer service) and he said he'd encountered this once before and it would be a warranty replacement, but shouldn't affect my ability to go off touring: we'd sort it next service. It says a lot about the poor quality of British roads if a bike that must've been tested extensively in India hadn't surfaced this issue by now!

Anyone else had this happen?

Yes, the front springs broke on my Mercedes, when I went to get replacements they told me front springs were one of their big sellers in the UK and virtually unheard of in Germany.
