My first question is:
I have a BSA A7SS the Registration document states it was first registered in March 1961.
The Frame number starts with GAY16--- however the frame number on the bike is GA716---, it would seem when the V5 was done an Y was used instead of a 7. the frame number on the bike does match 1961.
do I right to the DVLA and get them to correct this or just ignore it?

My second question is:
The Serial number for the Engine is CA7555--- which matches the V% but when I look on the BSA files in the club library it says it is a 1959 engine.
Would they have sold a bike in 1961 with a 1961 frame and 1959 engine or has the engine been changed at the DVLA informed and that is why the V5 is correct?

V500

Rule 1 in this life, never get the DVLA involved in anything like this; what should be a simple and easy process (you'd think) can end in months of red tape and pain. Live with it, it's easily explained to any future buyer.

It would seem that you have a replacement engine, which after nearly 70 years isn't unusual.

Keep your head down; these things can spin off in all sorts of unexpected directions.
