Recommended BSA builder in Surrey (Epsom area)?

Hey all,

Don't suppose anyone can recommend a trusted bike builder in/around my area (although can be further afield if they're the right person).

I've got a B44 SS that I'm looking to get finished off, as time commitments and being less familiar with these bikes (and how they should go together) than more modern machines means years are passing without it getting finished.

It's currently in a good state, rolling chassis with rebuilt engine and wheels, with most of the major parts there, but missing minor ones.

Once it's running I can maintain and improve it's just getting it to a running state. It came to me in bits which is part of the problem, if I'd have taken it apart I'd be more knowledgeable on how to rebuild it!

Any recommendations welcome!

Hey all,

I'd like to thank you all for NOT replying to this post. As it's forced me to do this the hard/more rewarding way: get the manuals out and do it myself! I'm also getting my 14 year old daughter involved, good way for her to learn about classic bikes too.

I've also since been swatting up on specs, it's a '68 SS in red but am going to fit a later (metal) tank and the front brake is updated to a 69 8" TLS.

Sorry but I know nothing about B44s and am quite a way from Surrey!

Sounds like you have a plan.

To be honest I don't think they're are many places that work on old bikes left. But as you say it forces you to do it yourself. Which is immensely satisfying when you get it right!

If he could find one, the hourly charges (which the bloke needs to make a living out of) would soon mount up to more than the bike's worth.
Plus some "customers" think an expensive labour charge means that the bike is somehow guaranteed for life, and that every minor mishap means a return to the rebuilder.
Working on low-end and old machinery is a recipe for financial disaster when the usual retort is "how much???"
