Thanks, yes the PWK26 was from JRC which one if a few companies that can supply a carb with a 2" drilled flange to fit old Brit bikes. They also supply a range of jets to get you going, and as a bonus the original cables fit.
I paid £60, and as you say, that is better than a new Amal that may not have fixed the issue.
