M20 Speedo Cable Too Short?

I recently got an M20 and the speedometer doesn't work. I looked it over and it appears the inner cable isn't quite long enough to reach into the speedometer itself. Luckily the bike came with a new cable. You can imagine my surprise when it was exactly the same and also too short for the bike. (See Pictures) Anyone know of a good cable that actually works or am I doing something wrong?

If you are careful you can wriggle the crimped alloy bit off and shorten the outer by the réquisit amount and re crimp the aluminium bit back on. 
Unless you selectively use shortest outer with longest inner of the two you have?
