Pre-OIF A65 forks.

I've got a sort out a front end for my '69 A65L basket case.
It's proving difficult for me because I've no knowledge of any pre OIF BSA forks at all.
My understanding (please tell me if I've got this wrong), is that BSA's unit twins and Triumph's unit twins (the big ones) started life with their own brand forks and front brakes.
As the '60's progressed, more parts became common to both marques, so by 1969 the front wheel and brake fitted to BSA's twins was shared with the 650 Triumph twins.
So by that point, how much else of the front end was shared parts with Triumph ?
The forks become "shuttle valve" damping about the same time that Triumph did I think.
Do the 1969 BSA forks share parts with the Triumph forks, or is everything subtly different ?
And finally, can I compare the parts numbers in a BSA parts catalogue directly to a Triumph one ?

I have seen a spare parts list where you can see the corresponding numbers BSA-Triumph. Several years ago though, the list is probably available somewhere in the cyberspace.

From a fairly cursory look at the BSA and Triumph 1969 parts books, you can see the shuttle valve forks are of the same basic design. Most of the parts share the same corresponding numbers but not all. For example, the BSA shuttle valve part number is 97-2154 with the corresponding Triumph part being H2154. However, the BSA fork sliders are 97-3641/97-3645 but the Triumph parts are H2294/H2295.

Essentially, if the same part was used between a BSA and a Triumph of that period, the last 4-digits of the parts numbers will be the same. Also, the BSA 2-digit suffix converts directly to the Triumph letter suffix; for example, 97- converts to H so 97-2154 and H2154 are essentially the same part number.

Hi,
Some parts can be interchanged. I used the BSAOC of New Englands site for a copy of the comparison:

Go to "tech stuff".

I have converted it into an Excel for quick search but not tidied it up yet.

Best wishes...
