Well I have sorted the colours based on which wire goes to the coils . I have put a new battery in the DVM and the readings are the same so will borrow another meter over the weekend and try again . Worst case it's no good and I get a replacement . Thank you all for your help

The big problem you may have is that a pair of the hi-power coils (B or C below) may have gone open circuit - rather than measuring 0.5 x R between the GY and WG wires, you are measuring the same R value as the single pair of coils A. Using an inaccurate DVM does not really affect that conclusion!

If you can get to the wires that connect each pair of coils together, you can firstly check it is intact and then by putting one of the DVM probes at this mid-point for each pair of coils, you can check whether you get continuity (actually 0.5 x R) to either the GY or the WG wires. If you get an open circuit, that will tell you that coil is probably duff.
