Hi, I'm about to begin the rebuild of a 1947 rigid B33, speedo in the tank model and I'm looking at petrol taps. I see there are two types available which appear to share a common O.E. part number, 42-8075. One pulls out and turns to lock and the other simply pulls out. I'd like to retain as much originality as possible without over-complicating matters, so does anyone know if it matters which type of tap I use? Thanks.

The 1947 tank had a petrol tap with a slide. hex one end circular grip the other- push the hex to turn it on - plus a lever reserve switch above and pipe. Part 24 8553.

Below from 1947 parts book.

Hi Julian, That's very helpful and much appreciated. I presume you have a parts list from which you've downloaded the images etc. If that's the case, are you able to say how I might obtain one? Thanks.

Available in members area of the BSAOC website.

Hi Julian
I've been looking for one of these taps for a while  :(
whereabouts in the members area are they, I can't seem to find them.
I assume it is the UK BSAOC ?

sorry Julian, I got that wrong  ::)

gleake ... Can you let us know what you think of the quality when your's arrives? I have found a few on e-bay , mostly from India but also one from the UK (at 5 for 40+ quid) and I wasn't sure about the quality you could expect.
cheers
Pete

Yes will do Pete. It should be with me by Monday, I'll keep you posted. Cheers, Geoff

P.S. Do you have good all-round knowledge of the early post-war singles - B33 in particular?

I have had an Indian made fuel tap on my M33 for a few years now. Like the one that has been described but without the reserve lever. I have had to nip up the nuts bearing on the cork once, other than that it has worked fine.

Hi Geoff
I have a 1948 B33 but I'm no expert I'm afraid. I try to help where I can but I've found the WM20 group a great source of knowledge for all things BSA / singles   http://wdbsa.nl/     the forum and technical pages are very useful. A very friendly bunch  :D

Hi Pete, Thanks for the the link, I've just taken a quick look and it looks very interesting. Incidentally, the fuel tap hasn't arrived yet but rest assured when it does arrive, I'll let you have my opinion and post some images.  Cheers.

Hi the ones you mentioned on ebay are from India they say they are in the uk but supplies and stock comes from India I believe

I had intended to post an image of the petrol tap but it's not possible as the file is too large. However it's arrived and looks very nice to my eyes.

It's from Classic Bike Parts, Cheshire and here's the link if anyone's interested:
