Hi peeps thought I'd treat the '71 Lightning to new rear brake shoes while it's in bits. Bought a set from Draganfly but they're slightly too big to go in the drum - is this normal? The friction material extends slightly further round the shoes than the originals, but I don't see how that makes the diameter bigger (as it were). Thanks!

Update. The original shoes have steel caps (41-6078) at the pivot end. The new shoes are cast in one piece, matching the shape of the shoe plus cap, but are slightly less recessed, so have a slightly larger fitted diameter. Despite the friction material being the same thickness as the originals, they won't go in the hub. Hope this helps. Full marks to Draganfly for a prompt credit.

Hi,

Almost the same problem on a '69 A65.  Not floating shoes but they pivot on the fixed pivot.  The curve on the shoes was too small so the shoes did not seat properly and would not go in to the drum.  Careful filling to the correct curve solved the problem.
It looks like SRM have the correct conical hubs shoes.
