Hi all,

I have a 1966 BSA A65 Lightning and on the centre stand the numbers cast on it are 68-4723/3 but in the parts books from 1966 to 1970 the part number for the centre stand is 68-4729. I think that there is a misprint in the 1967 parts book as it is the only one that lists the part number as 68-4728, all the other years say  68-4729?

Does anyone know what do the numbers in the casting refer to?

Cheers,

The raised number you see on the casting is purely the raw casting part no. The casting may be used in various finished item nos. depending on the model e.g tang or no tang fitted etc.

The parts books do not always tell the full story - they were corrected, added to for mid season changes, ammended and corrected by parts service bulletins.

The 1967 book was ammended with a 4 page bulletin in November 1966 which included a correction for the part number of the stand - you can see the correction on the photo below.

Many of these bulletins can be found in the members area of the BSAOC website.

Thanks for the info guys. Helpful and it makes one feel more comfortable about parts.
