As title
Can anyone recommend or give experiences please.
I've stripped the tank myself, it's previously been fully painted. There's no chrome on it.
Reserve tap connection leaks slightly and has been soldered so needs sorting
Couple of dents right at front will be in painted area
A few very small dings
I'd say it's solid
Thanks

Hi,

There have been a few threads re tank repairs and restoration.  Do a search and they should come up.

Sounds like the same situation as me.  I had the chrome stripped off mine. The external corrosion was not too bad, I fixed the small leak. Cleaned the internal with citric acid with a plan to line it. Externally I could have had the dents removed in the chrome area and the rest filled, and then the tank re-chromed before painting. However, to chrome a tank may cost £300 to £400. Plus a paint job. Plus Badges, tank rubbers and taps.

Eventually I bought a second hand tank in good condition.  I put my old tank in a condition where I could go back and finish the refurbishment.

My tips would be:
If you want to get the tank chromed take it to a chrome shop and have a chat about it before starting anything.

In hindsight I should have bought an Indian made tank.  Probably from someone like Burton Bike Bits rather than eBay as at least you have someone to go back to if it doesn't fit well.

So repairable if you want to spend the money.  There are people who specialise in tank refurbishment and will do it all for you.

Best of luck and let us know how you get on. And how much you spend.

Thanks John
I'm still looking at options but have already had one quote for £600 but I don't have any history of the person who quoted.
Doug Taylor in Weston super mare have quoted £300 plus VAT for chrome, Quality Chrome in Hull quoted £180. Very big difference in cost there.
I have used quality chrome before on stuff like kickstarts etc and all I k but a tank is a different matter.
Will let you know
