The problem with modern plugs is that the porcelain is no longer glazed. This means if your vehicle doesn't immediately start or you flood the carb to start petrol will soak into the porcelain and short out the spark. Brisk spark plugs are glazed so reducing the problem.

Singles / TR25W and TR25T gearbox mainsh...
Last post by Tigerfeet - 19 Oct, 2026, 16:09
I am trying to get my facts straight regarding the gearbox mainshaft in the later 250s - specifically the TR25W (B25) and TR25T (B25T / B25SS)

Having perused the Rupert engine book, it seems that the 1969 engine had various weak points. These are all related to the crankshaft/conrod/oil pump. I have managed to obtain a TR25T engine from March 1971, with all the improved items. But it has no gearbox, primary drive etc..  I was hoping to transfer these over from my dismantled 1969 TR25W engine.

According to the various 250 parts books, the 1969 engine has a 57-2661 (BSA 40-3254) gearbox mainshaft whilst the 1971 model has a 57-4344 mainshaft. (This appears to be the only difference between the gearboxes.) So my question is, are these interchangeable? Or do I need to find a 57-4344 shaft?

I can't upload the promo poster for our next presentation at the BSA North east branch on 5th November with John Young and his Quasar (this site limits images to 1,500 kB) but anyone in the North East knows where to look for the details on the BSAOC North East group Facebook pages.

Should be quite an interesting evening.....!  All welcome.

I was going through spark plugs at an alarming rate, tried NGK, new Champion, new old stock Champion, Denso, new old stock Lodge, iridium and gold paladium and anything else I could find! Some developed a misfire after around 50 miles, none were surviving 500 miles. I bought some Brisk plugs and they've been in for well over 2000 miles and are still working perfectly. They were more expensive but they have saved me the expense and inconvenience of constant plug changes. I'll be putting them in everything from now on.

Quote from: limeyrob on 16 Oct, 2026, 22:17 A B31 feels very much like a A7/A10 except to the power. The riding position is identical.

Indeed. And aged 17, how I wished my B31 was an A10!

JB weld and a good 60 lbft should keep it fixed.

Quote from: iansoady on 14 Oct, 2026, 12:17 There was a discussion on the C10/11 forum about using jbweld in a similar situation. I know not an "engineering" solution but some found it to work. Personaly I've used JB weld with success for damaged castings and the like.

I used JB Weld on a damaged keyway on a launderette tumble dryer, in 2020. It's been fine. The keyway was in a parallel shaft on the drum spindle, securing the drive sprocket

The dryer starts easily with wet washing machine loads that were up to 13kg dry.
