Title: Bantam flywheel plates
Post by: Rc30lover on 03 Oct, 2020, 18:29
Hello everyone,
A  newbie, reliving my youth. instead of a D1, I have renovated a B175.
Anyway, to the point.
Flywheel plates.
1. Are they essential ? Modern thinking seems to be that things work OK without them but, back in the day, we were packing the crankcase a full as we could.
2. How best to fix them in. Would a modern glue work OK? any experiences please ?

Have a look on the Bantam forum.
Lot of different opinions. I personally wouldnt trust any sort of "glue" to hold them. It would be a bit of a ball ache having to strip the engine if one of them came loose.
A lot of opinions say the bikes work just as well if you leave them out. In fact when I rebuilt my late Bantam, the plates were missing left out from a previous rebuild, but I just potter around on mine.
I doubt many of us would thrash them like we used to do so if the performance is a little different, then so be it. The racers might think differently...................

Thanks Silver Star. Not being rude. Away for a while caring.
