Title: Progressive fork springs
Post by: teebee67 on 26 Sep, 2020, 12:13
I sent for a pair of Ikon progressive fork springs for my 1967 Spitfire and, when they arrived, they are internal springs. The standard springs are external, does anyone know if I can fit these springs into my forks? Icon list them as suitable for a 1967 Spitfire Mark 3.

I doubt they will fit - the internal damper tube which fixes to the base of the 1966-68 fork bottom is about 10.75 inches long and the external diameter tapers from about 0.72 inch to 0.92 inch. I cannot see that there is enough  space for an internal spring between the tube and the inner diameter of the fork shaft.

They sound like OIF type.

Thanks Julian, I was hoping for a more positive answer but I fear you may well be right. Since I put this question on here I have emailed Ikon to see what they say but I am not too hopeful. Fortunately the supplier has offered a refund should they not be suitable.
Cheers,
Tony

Just realized that I have put this in the Triples section by mistake. Is it possible for admin to move it ti Twins please?

Seems they sent the wrong springs, I have returned them and got a full refund.
