Strangely as Ive never rebuilt a 500 before, I can normally get pistons of most sizes for other bikes from various suppliers but the A50 seems to be short, Hepolite dont list anything A50 at all.
Ive managed to get a pair of +.020 pistons complete but they are the only ones I could find. Im just wondering if anyone recognises the make, are they genuine OEM as no brand marking on boxes.
the reason for asking is that the barrels are standard bore size and I think a hone might work with new rings but I couldnt find standard rings only, didnt want to pay £200+ for a complete pair if they wont work.
thoughts about the brand? are they Indian budget ones?

Usually there are markings on the inside of the skirt. If they are budget ones then usually the rings can be upgraded providing the grooves are correct.
If you think a hone will do on the standard bore then try using +020 rings. See if one will fit in the honed cylinder and then set to the correct gap. Be careful fitting as they will have to be compressed a bit more than usual.

Entirely personal but I would have it rebored to take your new +020" pistons. Not terribly expensive and a more positive job. 25000+worry free miles

I can hone the bores myself but the engineer that does my rebores (has been for the last 30 years) usually takes around 6 weeks as he is in demand by road racers, motoxers, jet skiers, road riders, classic car and vehicles and modern vehicles doing cranks, barrels, line boring the whole lot, I wouldnt use any one else. In that time Ive had no problems nor have many others I know.
but, Im of the feeling that if I can get away and leave as standard I would rather.
regarding the +.020 rings its a thought, would have to look at the possibility of getting some, its just strange that the 500pistons arent as widely available as the 650, ditto Triumph as well.

I have often wondered at the apparent greater availability of A65 parts over A50. A couple of reasons???maybe. Were there somewhat less A50's manufactured. Were more A50's exported thus lessening the home demand. Are there simply less A50's alive now which could also lessen demand.
