Title: A65 Tyres
Post by: Kevev on 10 Sep, 2020, 12:35
Hi all,

What are your thoughts, experiences, recommendations on front and rear tyres for the pre oil in frame A65?

My 1966 Lightning has Dunlop K70's fitted (3.25 x 19" Front and 4.00 x 18" Rear) but they need replacing and I'm wondering if I should stick with the same, or is their a better choice?

Thanks.

Hi Kev Ev,

For many years I have used Avon AM20/AM21 and then RoadRiders on my A65s.  There is now a RoadRider 2.
I have just fitted a 100/90 x 18 on the front and a 400 x 18 on the rear.
I have found them to be a very good ride and handling and quite long lasting.  Perhaps not the cheapest but I think worth it.

Dave.

Thanks for the information guys.

They both look very similar tyres and I have had a look at the details on them from their respective websites.

The Avon looks like it would be better at dispersing water but there isn't a lot in it.

I would only ever be on a wet road if it started to rain while I was already out on the bike, my days of riding through all sorts of weather are long gone.

Like wise I wouldn't be looking to get my knee down on the Lightning, I have modern sports bikes for that, although at my age it's not something that happens a lot anymore. ;)

Take care and ride safe.
