Title: 500 gasket sets
Post by: chaz on 09 Sep, 2020, 18:24
my normal supplier has run out of 331BSA full gasket set for a A50, they have got a 337BSA set for a SCHG 1970-71 A50.
is there much difference  between the two? what is the SCHG? thanks

Not totally sure but was the '69 on when they upped the size of the rear cyl hd bolts from 5/16 to 3/8". That may be he only difference.

SCHG probably means solid copper head gasket

ah, yes possibly. its got the larger holes and a solid gasket at the moment, why the have to code everything...
so the solid copper head gaskets are thicker than normal copper gaskets, is it possible to retrofit the solid ones to the earlier compound ones, is there any benefit...just for reference?

reason for asking originally is that Drags and the parts book both quote the 331 not the 337 set

Hi,

I think the two types of gasket are the same thickness but the solid one is more reliable than the composite one.
Even for A10s etc. the solid is the better choice.
