I have built a B31 from parts, well I got a frame and forks and it was deemed to be a 1947 frame, I located a 1949 engine, now there should be no difference between the years, the engine to frame mountings are the same. I purchased an exhaust pipe and the bracket from pipe to frame was a mile away, so took it back, I was offered a choice of 2 more, I took the one that seemed to measure up, I didn't go near the bike for weeks then due to an operation, eventually when I offered the pipe up it wouldn't go into the cylinder head (the previous one did) but the bracket looked OK, so I measured the depth of the exhaust outlet in the head and put a wrap of masking tape around the pipe to that depth, then I carefully ground or linished the chrome down until the pipe was a very nice fit all the way in, fast forward 2 Months and I thought I will purchase a finned clamp for pipe, they come in different diameters, so off with my vernier to measure the O/D of my pipe one and 9 sixteenths, came home to find I should be finding it 1 1/2 so I thought the bloody chrome is a sixteenth thick, but my mate runs a chroming Company and told me that Chrome plate is only microns thick, so my question is who is the one going flippin nuts, and will the inch and half clamp squeeze onto the inch and 9 sixteenths pipe, why on earthy can't anyone make things correctly in this day and age?
I bought a exhaust from a west country supplier and that wouldn't enter the head at all of my 1949 M33. Of course when you complain you always get told it must be your machine we have never had complaints before.
It may well fit. It depends on how far it springs open when unclamped.
1 9/16" is within a gnats 40mm if that helps i.e. perhaps there's a suitable Japanese one.
Do you have the facility to bore it out? Put a washer in the split, secure it closed with the bolt, hold it in a 3 jaw on a lathe and tickle out to suit. I have done that in the past.

That is it, I will skim it out, but you shoudn't have to, I know we love doing all this and it gives us something to chat about later
bought a few over the years from armors , two things , never buy them chromed because you will have to alter to fit and you will ruin the chrome in the process , 2nd the silencers are rubbish and do not sound like a factory silencer . i would buy a standard factory pipe and silencer any day .
I agree. All the silencers I have bought are far noisier than the originals. Some one, some where must make a decent silencer that does just that. When I look into mine they all seem to have a large area inside with no sound proofing.
