Title: 1950 M20 rigid back wheel adjustment
Post by: DANFINN on 04 Sep, 2020, 23:24
I am struggling trying to work out the drive chain adjustment on this bike. On the nearside I have a snail cam but on the offside I have nothing. Speaking to Kidderminster Motor Cycles, they said I can use a snail cam. But I'm not sure how this can work as there is no lug on the frame to butt up to. On closer inspection I find that the place where a hole should be for an adjuster bolt has not been drilled, so this frame never had one of those, I assume. :-\

Help and guidance would be much appreciated as I would like to get this old machine sorted out. It was an older (botched) restoration I was told :o

Hi, My rigid B31 has snail cams both sides. They fit inside the frame where there is a stud. They are slotted so that they turn together when the wheel spindle is turned. Hope this is of some assistance. Dennis

Dennis49, my 1947 frame is like yours, two small rounds on the inside of the frame onto which the snails work, it's a bit fiddly, but once clamped up works fine.

There should be a snail cam on 1 side and an adjusting screw on the other.  All the best,   Glenn

Thanks folks!

It looks like I should drill the hole, tap it and put an adjuster screw in, looks to be a more stable solution 8)
