Title: Victor Front Brake
Post by: SGTSnacks on 04 Sep, 2020, 15:15
BOC,
I have several BSA Victor's. (66 B44E Enduro, two - 67 B44 Victor Specials and a 1969 B44VS)

The front brakes on the 1969 VS are in need of inspection/service, but I can't seem to be able to separate the backing plate from the drum/wheel?

Is there some simple solution to separating these two components for service?

I would prefer not to have to pound on it with a wooden dowel rod and mallet if possible.

It appears the axle bush that is inside the wheel (and protrudes out the backing plate side is holding things tight), can I push that in without doing any internal damage?

Thanks for the help!

  Cheers,

Is this the standard 8 inch BSA brake with the spindle with the left hand thread?  If so just knock it back the sleeve will drop into the hub. Just push the spindle back through and it will pick up the sleeve and push it into place.  The alloy of the brake plate can swell and grip the sleeve.
