Title: BSA A65 Petrol Tank Filler Cap
Post by: Kevev on 11 Aug, 2020, 12:15
Hi there all.

My 1966 BSA A65 Lightning has the 4 gallon petrol tank with the winged flip up petrol cap.

When I originally bought the bike there was nothing actually fixing it to the tank through the hole in it, where I presume some sort of hinged fixing pin should be.

I never actually got to fix anything because I could not get the hole in the cap to line up with the lugs on the petrol tank. It meant that I had to take the cap right off and usually I would place it on the top of the petrol pump while filling up.

I am in the process of rebuilding the bike and would like to get this small detail resolved.

I may have to buy a new petrol cap and hope that it lines up with the petrol tank properly in order to fit the hinge pieces. If not then I am sure I will be able to make adjustments to the cap as necessary. The actual parts needed for the hinge pin, however, are a bit of a mystery to me.

I cannot see anything in the parts book illustrations that show anything for the hinge and would appreciate it if anyone can tell me what should be there?

If anyone has any detailed photographs of said item, I would love to see them.

Thank you, Kev Ev
