I just go to ebay and pick who ever does a good deal. Have done ok so far. Much of the other stuff the Indians sell is rubbish I admit.

Hi,

Just be aware that your consumer rights are greatly reduced when buying from an overseas supplier.  It is my understanding that you have the protection that is applied in the country of purchase so India in this case.  The same product bought in the UK from a UK retailer has full UK consumer protection.  I suppose that you could go and see the tank before buying from a UK retailer so you would know what you were getting.

When My bike (B33) was being fettled by an expert, well respected in BSA circles, and whose name is known to all, he told me that my tank originated in India and I felt a profound sense of disappointment. I asked him how he could tell and he said because the welding around the base of the tank was so good - he elaborated by stating than none of the genuine BSA tanks were welded so skilfully and that, overall tyhe Indian tanks were superior! Good enough for Bobby Maghee!

Hi,

I agree that 'new' products can be as good if not better so 'tank' should be read as anything you buy from a non-UK supplier.  You may get the one that is not up to standard.

Dave.

Just once out of all the tanks I have bought from India did I get one that was not up to the standard my friend wanted. He thought the chrome wasn't up to standard. It was for his Goldie. I contacted the sender about this and another tank was sent. When I asked about the return of the old tank they never replied. So the tank my friend rejected has been on my Shooting Star for the last 13 years.

Hi,

As others I now use Indian tanks, from Royal Choppers on Ebay, I have bought 3 tanks from him and 1 on the way.  He lists with best offer, I always bid low and agree a reasonable price around £200- £250 free postage, depending on what extras are with the tank. Then ask him to throw in badges, cap etc, worked every time. He will also adapt the tank, I recently asked to leave the knee pad fixings off with different paint and he his quite happy to accommodate. I have had to run taps in the threads, adjust the caps and use a tank sealer like 'slosh' from Draganfly. You may need to pay import tax about £20 plus £12 clearance fee to Royal Mail but its worth it.

This one on the way for £200:

Generally the tanks are fine and if there was an issue you have Ebay/PayPal money back to fall back on.

I would use him again.

Best wishes...

In India, there is a long tradition, pre-dating the Raj, of beaten metalwork, they could make anything, given a sheet of tin, copper or brass. This may be why the tanks are good, other stuff less so.

Agree Bess, I've had two Indian tanks and they were really good. By the way who sells or makes tanks in the UK for our bikes?

There are quite a few UK makers and this thread has prompted me to take my B50T tank to Derby Road and Race to have a copy (albeit slightly larger capacity) made..

Well I've bit the bullet and order one today so let's hope that it turns out ok for me . Would you recommend that I use a sealer in the tank or as it is new just put fuel in it

I just put fuel in mine with no leaks, but others may put a sealer in theirs.

if sealer isnt needed then dont use it . If it starts to come off its difficult to fix .
