Title: A65 tank swop
Post by: Talisker on 22 Jul, 2020, 18:03
Somewhere I remember this being discussed before but I cannot find it so my question is this will the B25 B44 Starfire tank fit the  A65 as per firebird? I was going to rebuild my Thunderbolt as spec but have decided it just looks plain so for the first time I am seriously considering going non standard / rogue. The other question is can I fit siamese exhausts without problems? It is a 68 Thunderbolt.
Regards Jim

The UK Starfire tank was fitted to the last of the Lightnings in 1970, with Chrome plated kneepad areas. I think it's a great looking tank and would suit the overall styling well - EXCEPT, it doesn't marry up well with the front of the dual seat and there is a good 4" gap between tank and seat and IMHO it ruins the look of the whole bike.
If I were ever to fit one, I would make an extension to the front of the seat pan and get an upholsterer to make up the foam and alter the seat cover or get Leighton's to do a proper job.

The beauty of this and many other forums is that other peoples ideas can put a jig saw together, The seat is going to have to be recovered , I have just bought a welder so thats another angle. Thanks Editor for the input much appreciated.
