Title: Lightning carbs
Post by: A10 JWO on 19 Jul, 2020, 15:49
Went to see my mates new barn find. We pulled the carbs off and cleaned the relevant sections. The mixture screw on the near-side was one turn out and off side 1/2 a turn out. ?? I put them back as I found them but cleaner. Each carb had one flat flange washer. no heat insulators and no o rings. New battery and the thing started and ran and ticked over, no smoke or rattles. I started it without the filthy air filters. Which gaskets should be on the manifolds and opinions re the mixture screws please ( 1970 ) Thanks.

Hi,

In order of fitting, it has a gasket, then insulator and finally carb 'O' ring. The specified insulator was formally 1/8" thick CAF, superseded in the gasket set with similar asbestos free type, which can be replaced with a 5mm tufnal.

I use this when setting up carbs:
