Title: WD M20
Post by: jodie89 on 04 Jul, 2020, 08:57
Hello, I have recently acquired a 1941 WD M20. I am looking for a battery carrier and any information on some sort of side stand for this. Due to spinal issues I can't use the rear stand without help and I often ride alone. Any help or information gratefully received. Thanks, Roland.

This thread on Henk Joore's WDM20 website forum is of interest to me for my M20 too. I have before now 'dropped' the bike whilst loaded with camping gear etc at a petrol station when attempting to get it onto the rear stand!!!

On long runs with camping gear on board I have to have a riding partner just to  help me lift the M20 onto the stand :-[
Some people fit an after market 7/8" sidestand to the lower rear frame rail.
Obtaining a good one of these is not easy and some stockists are refusing to sell the repros as they can snap.

Yep I was following that post on Henks site as well but seems to have come to a stop. I was the last post on there asking if there was any news on progress but no reply. So I`m going to measure up this weekend and start to make my own. Planning on using some Cad software and a spare designer at work with some time on his hands that`s interested in helping me.

My M33 which has the same frame as an M20 is fitted with a side stand. It was fitted before I had it. Do you want some measurements.

Hello and thank you for your replies. Idie, I tried to send you a PM but for some reason I can't. I would be grateful for your measurements to make my own. Also, could you tell me the location of your stand. My bike has the original lower chain guard fitted so, without removing that, it would be difficult to mount on to the lower rear frame rails. I was thinking of mounting on the lower rail by the crank cases and welding a lever on to it to clear the primary cover and allow easy operation?? Thanks again, Roland.

this is a sidestand from an Enflied of some sort that I have fitted to my rigid framed B33 so it will most likely also fit an M20 as well. Had to make up a couple of extra studs and a distance plate but nothing excessive or irreversible and it works brilliantly. Locks down when weight is put on it and flips up automatically.

In all the years that I have owned the bike this is the first time I have looked at the fitting. You will notice that the lug that the arm is attached to is made with a bend in it.
