Hi this is my first post hopefully someone can help I've got a 1966 c15 SS I've just replaced the kickstart spring and decided to change the gearbox oil and primary chain oil.
The problem is in my manual the engine doesnt look the same.Ive got a slotted head cap and then another filler to the left of it(tried to ad photo but file was too big).As for the primary chain the manual shows two slotted inspection caps mine has one half way up on the right and I don't know where the drain is as the only drain is for the gearbox I believe.
Hope someone can follow that and help cheers.
Tatty, I'd say you've come to a good place. This forum has been hugely useful to me as a novice with a 1965 B40F. I've found it handy to add photos, but had a bit of difficulty at first with file size. Using Paint to reduce the photo size, and then using save, then properties, you can check the file size before attaching. I think max size is 124kb. Good luck, and welcome. I'm sure some of the experts here will be very helpful. Phil
Hi Phil thanks for that I'll try and do that with my photos then hopefully someone will be able to help
Cheers👍🏼
hover over your picture, right click, OPEN WITH > use paint.
when it opens up there should be an option to RESIZE.
you can either use PERCENTAGE and bring down from 100 to say 50 and will half size, if you want to keep the original size SAVE AS (the name ) and SMALL then try submitting, the size of the original can be found right clicking the original and PROPERTIES it will tell you the kb size and then work out how much to bring down to 1024kb
otherwise use the PIXELS option, the right click will also give you horizontal and vertical size of the original , then you can alter figures to allowable sizes
Cheers Chaz for all that info I posted originally on my phone I'll fire up the computer and give it a go👍🏼
Hopefully this has worked and you are able to see photos.
Well done re the pictures and welcome to the forum.
I can't help you personally as mine's older and different. Must say, tidy looking engine.
Cheers for that,Yes it's a lovely looking bike but I can't get it to run right but I'll sort this first then I'll probably be back with more questions and maybe photos now I've mastered it.👍🏼
Hi tatty,
On your first photo the larger plug with the slot is just a blanking plate that was were the distributor went on the older models this is not used as you have the points in side model, the hexagon plug is the gearbox fill hole.
The primary fill and drain holes are 2 of the lower allen bolts that should also have fibre washers I have attached a photo that show their location from the inside of the primary cover.
Hope this helps Mark
Mark says the fill and drain holes, but I think means the level and drain holes? On my B40 the primary chaincase fill hole is the large screw half way up the chaincase on the right, and the level hole and drain hole are where two of the Allen screws go at the bottom of the casing. Phil
Hi Phil,
Thanks for pointing that out you are correct (to many beers yesterday. ::)
:) That is one clean engine Tatty...impressed!
I've found the manuals especially Haynes don't show enough specific model/age detail. Get yourself a Rupert Ratio Engine book, or all three if it's your birthday soon! It has been a great help to me lately, as well as peeps on here.
Pete.
Thanks to mark,Pete and Phil much appreciated I'll look out for that engine book.
Confession I did pour some oil down the large slotted cover not too much as it just filled then worryingly it disappeared hopefully that's not done any damage to the engine.Thatll teach me to follow the manual.
Right I'll get on to sorting that the fuel taps just started leaking think it needs a new cork insert anyway
Cheers all.
Justin.
