Hi folks
Got as far as installing the inner timing cover. All OK except there seems to be a fair amount of endfloat on the kickstart quadrant - I'd say about 2mm. The parts catalogue shows no washer or spacer between the quadrant and the inner bush. Pushing the quadrant in reduces the depth of engagement between the quadrant and the kickstart spring plate as a proportion of the cutaway slots that engage with the plate are pushed into the socket. Is the quadrant secured in the "out" position by the outer cover, or by fitment of the plate and spring?
If you haven't already fit the outer cover and see what you have then. I don't recall any noticeable end float on mine, there shoUld be something otherwise the quadrant would bind.
Thanks Allan - on closer inspection it looks like the bush is protruding about 2mm from the inner case - so mystery solved I think! Onwards and upwards...
Good find
Sometimes it pays to keep your eyes open! Have driven the bush in flush, hopefully OK now...
