Title: Air Filter elements
Post by: Blackthou on 16 Jun, 2020, 21:38
1960 C15.

I took my air filter to bits to clean. I washed the elements and blew compressed air through the gauzes. Reassembled and blew again with air line.

I thought the flow was restricted so checked on the assembly. Different pictures show different amounts of filters and gauzes. Some have a thick felt washer also. How many should there be.

If you look carefully you may see a small hole through the centre of everything, is that correct?

The centre hole is for the rivet which held the elements together.

You can just see the rivet in this factory photo.

Thanks Julian. Much appreciated. I guess without the rivet a certain amount of air goes straight through?

My whole assembly is 3 gauzes and 2 elements, with outer pressed domed filter and retaining clip. Other pictures I've seen show less, one had a large felt washer underneath the retaining clip.

I would have thought that such a tight arrangement would stifle the air flow. As I said earlier, I blew compressed air through it and it wasn't free flowing though everything is clean now - the pictures were a before.

Just trying to establish the correct number and really appreciate your help. I'd have never have thought of a central rivet.

Sorry dont know how many layers.

There should be a rubber seal between the element and the body to seal it.

I found an article on the Net showing the same as I have. Hopefully confirms all is well. Just got to work on the "rivet" now.
