Hi all,
Can anyone tell me what the difference is between the 1965 and earlier front fork stanchion plug, part number 29-5283 and the later 1966 to 1968 plug, part number 41-5130?
Thanks
The photo will explain.
29 5283 on left, with small hole to match the damping cone in the fork bottom.
41 5130 right with the large hole and extension for the damper rod on the 1966 on forks.
Threads the same.
The sketch in the 1966 on parts book is wrong.
29 5283 will not fit the damper rod forks and 41 5130 wont provide damping if used in the earlier forks.
Thanks for the information Julian.
I'm a little confused about the length of the 41-5130 plug shown on the right of your photographs.
The plugs in my 1967 fork stanchions are exactly the same as the ones in the attached photographs, which are on sale at Feked.com with the part number 41-5130.
The extra length on plug in your photographs looks like it would cause a problem with the stanchions bottoming out in my fork tubes?
I've had the bike for quite a while and it's never had any problems with damping on the forks but the plugs are definitely identical to the ones shown on the attached photos.
That is very interesting. My A10 has 1968 A65 forks and these had plugs like the one in my photo fitted when I got them.
They dont bottom but the question is what have I got fitted to my forks?
I now think I have got wrong plugs fitted.
Thanks for raising it.
Hi Julian,
I have had a browse of several suppliers of BSA parts in both the UK and the USA and everyone of them shows the same type of plug as the one in my photos for the 41-5130 part number.
I cannot find one that looks like your photo anywhere, so I'm at a loss as to where it has come from or what part number it actually is?
If you manage to find out let me know and I will do the same for you if I find anything out.
Maybe someone else on here has an idea?
The part numbers were revised on the parts bulletin below.
A google search on 97 2709 comes up with a very similar looking plug to mine.
A bit of a mystery!
The ones in my 68 with BSA damper rod forks are the same as what Kevev posted.
Hey Julian,
I found this on google today>
Thanks for that it certainly looks like the ones I have.
