Title: Fork tongue clearance
Post by: Phil C on 13 Jun, 2020, 17:37
Me again. I've just put my front wheel back on my 1965 B40F, having had a new tyre put on. I noticed something I've not noticed before: the little tongue/lug on the RH fork rattles a bit between the shoulders on the brake plate. There's about .010" (ten thou) of play.  Rupert Ratio (vol 1, p.104) says use a bit of brass shim or aluminium drinks can material to fill the gap, but I don't quite follow how he fits it.   Any advice from anyone who has done this please? Eg best material, best way to fit it round the tongue, etc?   Phil

Bend it into an upside down U shape over the lug and the two down bits take up the play, put it in like a U and risk falling out, drink can should be enough or if really picky, measure gap with feelers and buy a roll of shim to suit. You might never need the roll again , so can does, you can always crack open another beer if , madam indoors needs to know why you are drinking😵
