Title: Which Cable - Smiths RPM counter
Post by: Matt Brighton on 09 Jun, 2020, 08:55
Hi

My rev counter stopped working - the inner cable has broken  and before i order one can I check with you here  if there are any variations or options  I ought to be aware of ?

I see some on e bay for about £6 - or about £20 from SRM/Dragnfly etc -

I just want to be sure what I should  ask/look for

My bike is a RGS Rep and its the smiths Chronometric ... it has the square peg at the clock end

Thank you very much for any replies

Thanks

Matt

Hi Matt,
From experience here is my preferential supplier, there are a lot of bad cables out there which will cause damage to your instrument. I measure the length with a spare piece of cable and have a chat with him before buying.

Thanks Bess

I have sent photos of the tachometer and drive peg asking for confirmation of correct cable before ordering

Thank you

Thanks again for the recommendation.

Having spoken to Russell,  I have ordered the correct (shorter of the two) cables for my bike.

Strange how we have bikes and /  or cars worth many thousands of pounds,  yet  will scrimp and risk damage to precision Smiths Chronometric instruments, manufactured to fine tolerances -  for the sake of saving just a fiver or so,  compared to getting a quality replacement  cable.

Matt
