Title: Seal Holders Tool! Not much luck for me
Post by: MJM_58SR on 05 Jun, 2020, 11:28
Further to my previous posts I also decided to get a seal holder tool and chose Burton Bike Bits as they seem to have good quality stuff.
Anyway it arrived a little while ago so I eagerly went into the garage to get on and... guess what... it doesn't fit! It's too big to fit into the seal holder.
Talk about deflated.
Anyone else had this problem?
I got the seal holders and seals from Burton too so I assumed they would all fit.
(The seal holders are good quality and heavy)

It would seem that some oil seal holders are being made of thicker metal so reducing the inside diameter. My oil seal tool has the same problem. I need to find someone with a big lathe to skim mine.

It's only about .32mm difference which is probably the paint to be fair so I may just file it off and see, I've got a mate with a lathe so that's option No2!

Just thought I would post an update.
I've received an email from BBB this morning (yes Sunday morning now that's good service).
From what they have said it's a batch that's been made with the wrong size tubing so they are arranging a swap out.
It obviously doesn't help me today but that's not a problem as going nowhere at the minute anyway but just wanted to share my experience.
Thumbs up from me

There must be a lot of these made and distributed throughout Britain. I have dealt with quite a few for friends all to narrow for the tool to fit and all bought from different suppliers.

I had a similar problem with my B44 fork seal holders.. It was as if the groove for the big external clip was too deep thus reducing ID clearance.. I ended up using a lathe and a belt sander to reduce the OD of the seal holder tool.
