Title: 1967 Starfire/Barracuda
Post by: PG17255 on 05 Jun, 2020, 10:30
The gold, red and white paint/anodising (whatever it is) on my tank badges is peeling and needs re-doing which would improve the overall look no end, but I'm having great difficulty in locating a good specialist for this job. I realise it might be quite costly. I don't know if the best result would be paint, anodising or enamelling, but it's way beyond my skills. Can anybody give me a recommendation please? Probably Midlands region I suspect? Many thanks - Paul

Have you thought about buying replacement ones? I'd imagine it would be very expensive for multiple anodising.

It might be worth looking into powdercoating. I believe it is possible to get a finish similar to anodising using powdercoat. I'm not sure if it would involve polishing beforehand. It's worth speaking to someone that does it to see the finishes and get some advice. I could also be talking complete rubbish.

I bought a pair of new badges from Burton Bike Bits for £36 plus P&P. I then painted them where necessary with some suitable paint.. You could use modelling paints with a steady hand (not after drinking of course) and a fine artists brush for example..  ;D
I've just also realised you've stated a 1967 model, so does it have the later steel petrol tank with badges like mine or is it the earlier fibreglass tank with the smaller resin type badges?

Gents - many thanks for some helpful hints. The badges I have are the metal ones on a metal tank. I cannot find badges that come ready painted, only the bare metal ones likes of which you Ian bought from Burton Bike Bits. I don't feel there is any need for me to buy new ones when there is nothing wrong with mine, except for the paint. Ian, if that's your own handywork as in your photo, you've done a lovely job and far better than I could do!
Having mine done professionally I envisage will be quite expensive but I'm prepared to spend. I don't want to fit cheap plastic ones. Does anyone know of a supplier who sells the original painted ones please?
Keep well all
Paul

There are a pair like mine on eBay and ready painted. Bit pricey for me though..
