Title: SPINNING BACK WHEEL
Post by: johnjag on 29 May, 2020, 16:33
Hi all - has anyone else come across this problem? I kick up my 66 Spitfire in neutral on the centre stand and when it starts the rear wheel starts spinning like mad, registering 10mph on the speedo! If I put my shoe against the tyre I can stop it but it has some force. If I pull the clutch in it stops. Now my other bikes turn the back wheels but only slowly, stoppable by my hand. Should I be worried? Thanks JJ.

They all do that sir. Well at least my B33 and Shooting Star do. I put it done to oil drag in the gearbox. To be honest I don't worry about, it never seems to cause a problem.

Yes, they all do it, unless you've forgotten to check your gearbox oil!

even modern superbikes do it if the clutch is dragging or not used for a while, Ive had the back wheel spinning around 20mph before, so gets a bit of vibration on the ramp.

Thanks for that guys. Although I have had the bike for 2 years I only noticed it after I put new timing gear bushes in, so that was why I was worried. Obviously it has always done it but I never noticed.

Thanks again

John.
