hi there,
im new to my bsa ownership as ive just purchased a rather big project. a 1967 bsa b40wd. has been sitting for the last 27 years in the previous owners loft. It is mostly together all bar the engine which is fully dismantled. As i know nothing about the engine and would say its beyond me to put it back together im after someone who can either help put it together or take the engine off my hands and rebuild it. Im located in sevenoaks, kent. Hope someone can help.
Joe
Firstly, spend £60 or so and get Ruperts book, more like a bible. Even if you sub it out they are always full of tips and info.. Rupert Ratio B40, direct from the man on here as well.
Rupert book is £25.00 not £60 and worth every penny. http://www.ratiopublishing.co.uk/The-Rupert-Ratio-Unit-Single-Manual-Volume-1
I was quoting for all three books, the first book is engine so as he is doing a complete bike rebuild, would pay to get the others.
Agree, at least the first engine book. Though you'll probably need the second book when the engine is sorted out.
There must be a reason why PO dismantled the engine and why he gave up and then tucked it away.
Either he had a break down or decided it was time for a full rebuild. Then found something else to do.
Any signs of a failure? How much did he dismantle it?
Some detective work for you.
I found it useful to take a lot of pictures when restoring a bike. Both dismantling and assembly. I also make spreadsheets on rebuilds. Noting every part, condition, if replaced part number and supplier and cost. Valuable if I for some reason have to postpone work on that bike. Maybe a sign of old age that I can't remember years later.
Forgot to check my notes last year. Notes said a split pin should be fitted. Resulting in a non working clutch, racing a Norton Manx.
Good morning Joe,
As well as the above advice, if your are not already a member of the BSAOC then why not join and get in touch with the Kent Branch. I am sure there are several members who would be glad to help.
Details of how to join are at the top of this forum.
Good luck with the engine.
Dave.
I have a B40 that I sent to Rupert Ratio (Dave Smith) to build. His attention to detail is outstanding and my B40 feels super punchy and sm o o o t hhh. Well worth an email.
