Title: a65 tyres
Post by: easterndriver on 28 May, 2020, 15:49
I just noticed the tyres on my 1965 A65 are not looking so good, tread is fine but lots of little cracks on the side. I have been recommended Mitas tyres. Has anyone had these tyres fitted on their bike or is there any other make recommended,
many thanks colin

I use Avon Roadriders on my A65 which allow for even better handling and they don't seem to wear as quickly as my K70's did. Roadriders in sizes like 3.25 x 19 and 4.00 x 18 are available but only in the Roadrider MkII now.

Same as Ian, they also look a lot better than the mitas and have quite a long wear life compared to the K70

Hi,

Definitely Road Riders.
The are some horror stories re Mitas tyres.  More on modern bikes so perhaps ok on a BSA but I would not use them on anything.

Dave.

That's interesting, I am just about to replace my A65 Thunderbolt rear tyre. It's a K70 at the moment and is now 'on the wear limit' after 4000. If I changed to a Avon Roadrider II on the back would it be compatible with the K70 front which still has plenty of tread left?

It would work but a road rider on the front will handle even better.

 :) :) :)

I have used Mitas on various vehicles with no apparent problem. Perhaps if I was still had the riding tendencies of an 18 years old it might be a different story.

I use a Mitas tyre on the rear of my Shooting Star, works for me.

Follow up to my earlier post. I used Mitas on the rear of big tractor(14" x 36"???) and just spoke to my son and Mitas are quite widely???? used in aviation.
