My handbook advises that when removing the rear wheel you should take care not to disturb the setting of the chain adjusters. Fair enough. But having refitted the wheel I'm having difficulty getting the two ends of the chain close enough to each other to insert the link. Is there a knack or something obvious I'm missing? Phil
There is a tool for doing that, like a small clamp. Try long nosed pliers or failing that feed bailing wire through the middle between the links and wind up using pliers.
Sorted. In between the two skins of the chainguard is a kind of boss/guide which the chain is obviously meant to go over. As it's not visible from the outside I'd forgotten about it and fed the chain under it. Once corrected, it was easy to locate both ends of the chain on the sprocket and pop the link in. Thanks anyway Idie. Phil. PS when I spotted it I did of course feel a bit of a fool. You know, the kind of bloke who spills a tank full of oil on his bike mat.
I did exactly the same thing on my Shooting Star last year. I forgot about it until you mentioned it. Glad you fixed it.
