Hi everyone. I have a 1956 A7 Shooting Star and I need to cut holes in a standard headlamp nacelle such that the speedo cable tube grommet can be fitted. Does anyone have any dimensions where I must cut the nacelle to fit the grommet?
Cheers, Chris
Wouldn't the 56 have the divers helmet type?

With this or the later type I've never seen the cable be passed through a hole in the nacelle. Usually just one side or the other of the bottom yoke depending on arrangement
If you have the divers helmet nacelle. Then the headlamp bowl has two holes in it for the speedo cable. The b holes are elongated to allow for headlamp adjustment. If it has the later type then the bottom of the nacelle has a hole about an inch across with a large grommet in it.
My research has shown that I should have a headlamp cowl cut like the one in the picture to fit the speedo cable grommet. What I need are the measurements of where to cut the cowl. Cheers.
You don't cut the cowl. Remove the headlamp shell. Place face down pointy bit up with the screw that that goes into the retaining clip away from you at twelve o clock. Both holes are oval. They are 1 1/8" long and 7/8" wide so two straights with a radius at each end. The hole closest to you mid way between 4 and 5 o clock is 2" from edge ( by edge it is from where it curves to meet the flange for the rim) The side of the hole is 2 1/2" from the mounting bolt. The hole furthest away from you the left hand edge is inline with 12 o clock. The end of the hole is 4 1/4" from edge. The right hand side is 3 1/2" from the mounting bolt. Its seems very confusing but when you look at the shell mark out with a felt tip then will become clearer.
That's perfect. Many thanks.
Chris
