Hi
I am restoring a B31 1958 alternator type. unfortunately the alternator was missing when i got the bike so I contacted Clasic Bike Shop they have been very good so far they recommended an alternator which i bought. it only has two wire coming from it and the wiring diagram shows three. have i got the right one ?? is there a way i can use this alternator?? any help would be fantastic as i am i bit out of my depth on this topic. I have tried to contact the shop and ask which rectifier (Which i also need) would be best but getting no reply (they be on short staff at the moment)
if its two wire it is 12 volt, you will need a rectifier and heatsink or one of the new combined, wring from the regulator is basically the same as a dynamo
thanks that makes sense, the original diagram is 6 volt and as there on wiring on the bike i am going make it 12 volt, clasic bike shop do a regulator which should fit.
Thanks again
Hi i now have a rectifier and heat sink combined for a dynamo it has a circuit diagram which is good but it has one wire going to the field coil which i don't have with a alternator .
Any idea what to do with this wire.
I have attached the diagram that came with the regulator
Many thanks
You don't use a rectifier on a dynamo it is already DC.
Get the correct item or items for an alternator bike.
A dynamo regulator is not compatible with your alternator.
send me your email , I have the information you need its about 6 pages long , I will email the scans .
