Title: A65 front mudguard
Post by: wardy on 14 May, 2020, 20:19
Hi folks - sorting a 1971 Lightning, one of the missing parts is the front mudguard. Can't see any for sale other than universal 19" types where it seems you'd have to fabricate the mounts. Any advice appreciated

If your happy with the British type with the long front there are loads about, if you want the US type then you will struggle to find one.

Us type mudguard is virtually  impossible to find new I've had to get the original  rechromed. I did see one for sale at kempton auto jumble last year but I hesitated and went back to find it sold. I did see a uk long one at Newark but it was a badly scratched stainless second and i didn't fancy polishing  and cutting it. You may get one from America second hand easier than  over here.

Hi,

Burton Bike Bits seem to have a good selection.

Dave.

I have found that lots of suppliers list the mudguard but none have any  in stock and say they can email when in stock. I then phone them asking when that is likely and most say no idea maybe never as nobody is currently producing any as they are quite tricky due to the welded wire stays

Thanks guys - that seems to bear out what I've found. Not sure how you'd go about adapting a bare guard to be secured with the stays. Will carry on looking.
