Title: Concentric yet again
Post by: Mike Farmer on 11 May, 2020, 20:02
 :) :) :)

Bike is A65 Thunderbolt and the engine is probably 1965 ---element of doubt there cos its away at the mo and I can't check the No. Normal 9.5 pistons bored +040

I bought a used 928 concentric on Ebay for £35. When it arrived today it appeared to be brand new and it was still in its original Amal box, with the little instruction book etc.(label on the box says £135.00)

Now. I have several books and I am getting conflicting info on jets. I've not gone any further at the mo than checking the main jet.

So it has a 170 fitted at present. One of my books says 220 one says 230 and Amal web site says 180.

A bit of advice on this one please--If I recall from many moons ago it should be 230. Over to you.

Firstly you need to determine if it's a 2 stroke or 4 stroke carb, in 67/68 all carbs were 2stroke type, by 69 they developed the 4 stroke carb.

Hi Mike,

I think the spec remained the same once concentric carbs were adopted, so from my '69/'70 WM.

Main jet       230
Pilot jet       20
Needle jet    .106
Needle pos.  1  This is the top groove.
Slide           3 1/2

Dave.

Hi Dave.

Two of the books available to me give that configuration. But another couple are at odds with it and Amal quote is totally different. Currently doing speak with them and awaiting their next email.

The Amal website lists the same values for 68 onwards as Dave has listed, only that by 69', screw in pilot jets stopped being used and a 0.016" ID pressed in bush was used as this placed the restriction closer to the welch plug.

From Amal today. 230 main 3.5 slide and .106 needle. The quote on their site is a general set up and subject to customer requirements.

Thanks for all your input.
