Hi guys
Just got new arm cam and camshaft bushes for my 1967 a65
Now they need reaming any idea weather there are reamers out there or weather they have to be line bored
Mark
personally, I have extra long reamers that ream both in line, otherwise your friendly machine shop.
should be normal size , ie fractional size rather than an oddsize.
I have found a Chinese supplier that will sell you a metric reamer in 0.01 increments (0.00039"), you have to wait a week for delivery, when I was doing my custom bar grips I ended up buying 3 to open up to allow for the paint thickness.
Hi Mark,
The camshaft runs in 3 bushes. I wouldn't hand ream them, rather line bore or set up square and central on a machine bed and machine ream.
Service sheet 208 outlines how the plunger A10 could be done without specialist machines using a reamer jig. Maybe worth a look if there is such a thing for the A65, could be worth having one made for the future. As it is mutli purpose tool for the cam, idler and the crankcase bush.
Best wishes...
The only bushes I change are the idler gear ones. I did have to ream the timing side cam bushes but this was because the magacycle cam I bought was 0.003" bigger than standard.
I placed a large ball bearing in the Drive side bush and used that Within the divot in the reamer to centre reamer so I could ream the TS bushes. You would need to make a sleeve to allow a reamer to be centralised within the timing side bushes then you can ream the drive side.
As I say though, I wouldn't bother changing them the cam is so well supported I've never seen one with an noticeable wear, idler bushes as I say is a different matter.
Cheers guys
I've decided to give to an engineer to line hire but could take up to six weeks as he's busy , the joys of living in Perth (AUS)
