Title: Oil leak A50
Post by: AdrianS on 06 May, 2020, 17:28
Fitted new later type oil feed pipes, new rocker feed, new gearbox cable and changed oil and cleaned filters, and removed an anti wet sumping valve. Refilled gearbox oil and started the bike.
All ok except a bit of smoking from the left pot but quite a drip from the chain case. The bike has got a fully enclosed chain and the oil was dripping from the seam towards the back wheel.
I will probably have to take the chain case lower off and see if I can see anything but would appreciate any clues as to what the problem may be.

Perhaps crankcase pressure leaking into the primary casing and forcing out excessive oil through the oiling jet for the rear chain. I assume you have this jet fitted on your A50.
The oil level in the transmission case is ok?

The smoking could be piston rings.

I had thought about the chain oiler. Unfortunately all oil was changed so all the oil looks clear!
I suppose I need to see if it is gearbox oil - my other thought was the final drive seal.

Could be the improved rocker oil feed is now showing up a valve guide issue (smoking on left pot)

Smoking on over run or under load?

Light smoking on left side when running generally - not specifically over run or under load.
