Title: I lost one of my nuts !
Post by: Matt Brighton on 05 May, 2020, 21:41
Can anyone here confirm exactly what nut I need (and where to get one) for the tank strap on my RGS Rep please ?

After removing the tank I could only fine one of the two nuts that attach the strap to the fixed bolt.

I took the remaining one to the Namrick nut n bolt shop in Hove  which I'm lucky enough to live near and guy at counter said it was a very old type thread and couldn't help...

I see cycle threads BSP's and such like are a previous topic of discussion amongst those that speak that language.

Afraid I can only stretch to metric and AF

Thank you in anticipation

For the record , it wouldn't be BSP (or NPT) as they are pipe threads, used on fuel taps, water pipes and the like. Normally a straight P is parallel and if sealing on the thread a T for taper, eg BSPT. Normally the hole is parallel the fitting tapered. Where parallel threads used there is normally a fibre or copper washer fitted, taper sealing loctite, the old red hermatite or ptfe tape is used.
BSC  normal on the old stuff. Along with BSF or the coarser BSW, only when the main market was America around the oil in frame era, they started using UNF or UNC

If its the same as a A10 Golden Flash (I've checked on the two tanks that I have got) then it is Part Number 02-0049 which is a 5/16" diameter x 26tpi CEI (BSCy) nut.
Available from Draganfly (https://www.draganfly.co.uk/triumph-shop/twin-cylinder/product/4559-standard-nut-5-16-x-26-tpi/category_pathway-2) at 47p each - but you'll pay £2.95 p+p on top.
For CEI nuts and bolts I use aa  online firm called Nookys Nuts (http://www.nookysnuts.com/catalogue/nutsandbolts/nutsandbolts.html)
They do CEI, BSF, UNF, BA and BSW nuts and bolts. Only problem is you have to buy 5 bags of what you want (assorted sizes) with minimum £8.00 order - ok if you're doing a full restoration but works out expensive for one nut!!

Nooky's Nuts. Order on line and buy a selection to get to the minimum charge. I have used him for years and top quality.
