Title: Speedo cable length
Post by: Blackthou on 26 Apr, 2020, 20:58
Hi,

re 1960 C15. I need to buy a new speedo cable. The one on the bike looped round rearwards, went under the seat and petrol tank to the speedo. It's 66.5" long. I've read they tend to break (which this one has) when routed that way and a better way to go is under the swinging arm, then engine and up the down tube to the speedo.

My dilemma is which length to buy as I've seen 58", 58.5" and 61". Some say fits all C15 bikes and other say 63 or 64 on. I've searched the threads and couldn't find anything so some advice would be appreciated.

Smiths catalogues gives length as follows for C15 Star;

59-62 = 56 inches

63-65 =  58.5 inches

That is length of the outer.

Thanks Julian, your help and advice is always greatly appreciated. Looks like my bike had the later cable fitted being 66". All the ones I've seen advetised  are 56". I was assuming that was the length of the outer which is how I measured my 66".
