Title: RGS Dispatch Description
Post by: 62RGSNZ on 26 Apr, 2020, 00:44
Hi All,

My 1962 RGS was despatched on the 18th April 1962 to RJ Ware & Sons, Newport Monmouthshire as an "A10Rocket Gold Star Black "according to Ian
The bike is in clubman format with chrome and silver tank.

2 questions:

What does the black denote?
Does anyone have info on dealer as described - love to see a dealership sticker or logo or something about them.

Tony
From New Zealand

Hi, perhaps try this talking to this guy about the dealer: https://uk.linkedin.com/in/ian-frankland-a4665a30

Apparently he used to work there, although not in 1962.

Cheers

A few of the early RGS entries say "A10 RGS black" with no other details.

Most entries do not include a colour - the odd entry shows silver and a number of those exported to the US are shown red.

The UK catalogue is ambiguous, you will see what  mean from the page below under "finish" but it does not list an alternative to the silver/chrome tank.

Also have a '62 RGS , despatched from factory in June and exported to USA. Came back to UK in the '90s. All paperwork related to this bike has colour description "Black". In reality it was only the side panels that were black while tank was silver / chrome. When I got the bike 8 years ago it was in clubman trim with rearsets and touring bars turned upside down (probably how it was originally supplied - the upside down touring bars was common back in the day). I've since fitted clip-ons - see pic.
