Title: 1967 Starfire/Barracuda
Post by: PG17255 on 21 Apr, 2020, 12:06
Hello All - my Starfire petrol tank is fitted with 2 petcocks and I only want to use the one on the right side. So I want to remove the one on the left and "plug" it with a suitable bolt and sealing washer that looks good - chrome or stainless - but I don't know what the thread is and I don't know where to source one
Then I want to fit a nice new petcock to the right side with an On, Off and Reserve facility but again, as above, I don't know the thread and I would very much appreciate it if someone can direct me to a suitable supplier for both
Can anyone help me please?
Very many thanks - Paul

Hello Paul.. A few things to mention regarding just one tap on RHS. Firstly, you'll need to take your hand off the throttle to switch to reserve (I always fit reserve to LHS of my tanks) which may be a safety issue.. Also, there will always be an amount of fuel in the tank which you won't be able to use whilst on the move. You'd have to stop and lean bike over to allow it to 'slosh' to other side.
Ok now which tank are you taking about? If it's the 67 model year fibreglass one then this had a separate filter to the tap. AFAIK the filter was 3/8" BSPP (BSP parallel) and the tap was 1/8" BSPP. On the later steel tanks the thread was 1/4" BSPP with the filter and tap being all one part. HTH

as Ian says, they were put there for a reason, double taps act as a reserve , as long as you dont leave both open when riding.
On the A10 Ive got 3 holes in the bottom., all 1/8BSP, the first two , at the front are for a link pipe so presumably a reserve tap used.
personal preference, but I would keep the left one, as when the bike on side stand that where it gets the feed from, butits the running out when riding to think about

Very many thanks Ian and Chaz - I have decided to leave things as they are and, knowing what I now know from you regarding the left and right side, I shall use the left side as a reserve
Thank you once again for your trouble taken to reply
Keep well
Paul
